"Boldly go, my love!"
1957 - 2025

Boldly go, my love!

Richard Alan Wisker, lovingly known as Dick, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, in Whispering Pines, North Carolina, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.  He was 68 years old.

Born on May 11, 1957, in Shelbyville, Indiana, Dick lived a life marked by quiet strength, deep curiosity, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.  He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nancy, with whom he shared a lifetime of partnership, adventure, and enduring love.

A proud and loving father, Dick is also survived by his daughter Michelle Lundberg (Chris), and his cherished granddaughter, Evie Mae Lundberg, who brought him endless joy.  His constant companion, Ellie Rose - his beloved shichon - remained faithfully by his side until his final moments.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Jean, and his older brother Mike.  As a boy growing up in Shelbyville, he treasured winters spent hunting and trapping with his brothers Mike and Don.  He was a loving big brother to his sisters Debbie and Linda, and he carried those family bonds with him throughout his life.

In his 20s and 30s, Dick enjoyed crafting wine and beer at home.  His dedication and talent earned him several ribbons at the Indiana State Fair, including a blue ribbon for his blackberry wine.  In 1988, his expertise was recognized when he was invited to serve as a judge for the wine competition - an honor he carried with quiet pride.

Dick retired as an electrician after 31 and a half years with General Motors.  Known for his remarkable ability to fix almost anything, he and Nancy shared a passion for DIY projects.  Together, they poured their hearts into the total remodel of an 1840s farmhouse in Middle Tennessee - a true labor of love and a testament to their shared vision and determination.

During the years he lived in Tennessee, Dick took a unique turn in life’s journey by raising emus.  He became active in the Tennessee Emu Association and even served on its Board of Directors, embracing the experience with characteristic curiosity and commitment.

A lifelong stargazer, Dick was an avid amateur astronomer who built his own backyard observatory in 1989.  His fascination with the cosmos shaped his life and family; his daughter Michelle could name the planets before she could count to ten.  A proud member of The Planetary Society for over 40 years, Dick’s name is now a part of numerous space missions.  For him, being a part of the upcoming Destiny Flight into lunar orbit represents the realization of a lifelong dream - to have his spirit soar among the stars.

Dick will be remembered for his thirst for discovery, his steady hands, and his loving heart.  He leaves behind a legacy of wonder, craftsmanship, and devotion that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
