David Dean Klaffky passed away in his home on July 23, 2024, at the age of 68. David was born on January 14, 1956, in Huntington, New York. He met the love of his life, his wife Donna, while later living in Florida.
Both David and Donna moved from Florida to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to start their family in 1978. David did not long for attention and, as such, lived his life modestly with the goal of providing a better life for his children than what he had. He worked for over 43 years at Albertsons/Safeway, where he made life-long friendships and a "work" family. David was also a longtime local volunteer, contributing a significant amount of his time to volunteering for political causes he believed in.
In his retirement, David most recently enjoyed time relaxing with his family, their bichon frise Opal, and spending time with his grandson, Camden; however, he and his wife also took many trips to enjoy the country's many state and national parks over the years. David and Donna also recently traveled to Florida to spend time with their extended family, and while there, David was able to witness a SpaceX rocket launch, a passion of his. They also had an annual tradition of spending time in Estes Park, Colorado, each year to enjoy the outdoors and watch elk in Rocky Mountain National Park.
He watched rockets launch in his young adult life at Cape Canaveral, where he would religiously watch every rocket launch; he has always aspired to learn more about the universe. David also watched every episode of Star Trek (his favorite, the Next Generation) and all Star Wars movies. This space launch is particularly special for David and his family, given David's love of science fiction and real-life discoveries.
David is survived by his wife Donna (67), brother Robert (64), daughter Paula (43), son Steven (39), and grandson Camden (10).
