Thomas Jay Young was born on March 15, 1953 in Olney, Maryland. Tom was survived by 3 brothers, Doug, Danny, and Chris and 1 sister, Kathy as well as 7 nieces and nephews and 4 great nieces and nephews His many names ranged from Tom, Tommy, Bro, Uncle Tom, UT and the “Better One”. Tom was loved by everyone who knew him.
Tom was humble and lived simply. He worked at the Post Office in Germantown Maryland and spent most of his spare time working on computers for family and friends as well as making sure that he had every book (especially Sci-Fi novels) that were available by paper as well as electronically.
One of the first things most people will tell you that they remember about Tom is that he was funny. He had a unique laugh that made everyone laugh too. His humor was creative and constant and he made everyone happy that had the chance to talk with him. He could even talk and laugh about the most concerning subjects and somehow he made the conversation fun and very informing. His stories about his childhood were hilarious and never ending. He also loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, making them laugh and teaching them technology and how to make all kinds of different things.
Tom was extremely intelligent and his love for reading kept him well-versed. He was knowledgeable in almost every subject and he had an unwavering passion for technology, science fiction, and movies. He could repair or build a computer for anyone. His love for shopping and technology was evident when all family and friends received frequent packages in the mail that always contained some sort of latest invention or fun gadget.
Tom departed this life on June 19, 2017. He was described as a gentle giant and was loved by children, co-workers, family, and basically all who had the fortune to know him. His humor, love, and kindness define him and he will live on in our hearts forever.
