Russell H. Logan

"God, music, science, love. All are infinite."
1929 - 2022

Russell Hood Logan of Colleyville, Texas, lived a life marked by innovation, faith, music, and deep devotion to family and community. Born on April 28, 1929, in Coahoma, Texas, to Benjamin Franklin Logan and Mabel Hood Logan, Russell was raised in a home filled with music—an influence that would echo throughout his life. After moving to Lubbock in 1942, he graduated with honors and began his academic journey in math and science at Howard County Junior College, earning straight A’s while teaching chemistry labs. He went on to receive his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University in 1951, where he was recognized by honor societies including Tau Beta Pi and Kappa Mu Epsilon. Even as a student, Russell’s inventive spirit was evident—his first invention was a homopolar DC generator.

Russell's professional career began with Texas Electric Service Company, where he supervised high-voltage transmission line construction and designed a passive fault indicator. He then transitioned into nuclear weapons engineering with Sandia Corporation before making a significant impact at Texas Instruments in Dallas. Over the decades, he developed groundbreaking radar systems and held five U.S. patents. His leadership roles included Principal Fellow and Chief Engineer, overseeing more than 3,000 engineers and fostering programs that encouraged innovation and academic collaboration. He was named a Distinguished Engineer by Texas Tech University in 1986. Even after his formal retirement in 1991, he continued consulting for defense and research agencies through his firm, Red Team, until retiring again in 2001.

In 1994, Russell and his beloved wife Carol settled in Colleyville, where they became deeply involved in the First Methodist Church of Grapevine. Russell’s musical talents—ranging from piano and violin to saxophone and guitar—blessed many through church choirs, youth ministries, and local performances. He composed original songs, repaired stringed instruments, and shared his gifts with the Grapevine REC and his faith community. Music, for him, was both a passion and a ministry.

Russell and Carol shared 47 beautiful years together until her passing in 2021. He is survived by four loving children—Russell E. (Rusty), Sandra J. Logan Peacock, Keith L. Daniels, and Kevin B. Daniels—as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his brother, Sam Logan. He was preceded in death by his daughter Pamela D. Logan Timbrell and several siblings. Russell passed peacefully on September 20, 2022, at the age of 93, surrounded by the love of his family and the legacy of a life lived with purpose. His memorial service was held at First Methodist Church of Grapevine, and he was laid to rest at Restland Cemetery in Dallas. Russell H. Logan leaves behind a rich legacy of brilliance, kindness, service, and song—a life that truly soared.
