Patrick was born at Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and attended Greenfield Elementary School in Edmonton, Alberta. He graduated from KLO Secondary School in Kelowna, British Columbia, where, in his senior year, he was elected President of the Student Council. He was a keen soccer and rugby player and also a champion debater. Patrick went on to attend the University of Victoria in B.C. to study for his Bachelor of Arts degree. Patrick loved to travel so after his third year at university he accepted a summer internship with IBM in Taipei, Taiwan. When that summer assignment ended, he took a break from university and worked at an English language radio station in Taipei as a late-night “disk jockey” and developed a large fan club especially among young girls from mainland China where his station was very popular as was he 😊 Afterwards Patrick moved to Hong Kong and worked there in the computer industry for several years before moving back to Canada where he completed his degree.
In 2005 Patrick left Canada and moved to Glenarm, a lovely little coastal village in Northern Ireland to look after his mum who had unfortunately fallen ill after moving there a few years previously. While living in Northern Ireland Patrick found employment with the British Broadcasting Corporation as a web designer and also joined the Northern Ireland Amateur Astronomical Society. It was at the NIAAS in 2006 that he would meet his future wife Deborah on a day trip to the Armagh Observatory while they sat together making plastic rockets lol. When his mum unfortunately passed away in 2007 he decided to remain in Northern Ireland as he had made a good life for himself there. Sadly due to ill health Patrick found himself unable to do the work he loved so much, however he continued to enjoy reading, astronomy and keeping up to date with all the emerging new technology which fascinated him. Patrick had a great love for all things regarding space exploration and the cosmos. He loved to watch space and science fiction movies and would even go on to name his new kitten Mr Spock - of whom he was a great fan.
Patrick also had a love of music, especially jazz and would enjoy going to live gigs. He was a great reader of both fiction and nonfiction so he was very knowledgeable in an array of subjects which made him a very interesting guy to be around! Until his passing Patrick and his wife Deborah lived happily with their cat Mr Spock and dog Molly who deeply, deeply miss him. Patrick is also missed by all his Northern Ireland family and friends and his Canadian family and friends, father John, step-mum Valerie, sister Heather, and stepsister Lisa.
Until we see him again, fly high Patrick xx
