Levi David Shepard was born on August 5th, 2017, in the middle of a warm sunny day. At 18 months old, he became obsessed with the sun and would look for suns everywhere. As soon as he could talk, he was asking people to draw him suns of every color everywhere. At age 2, that obsession spread to the planets orbiting the sun. He learned every name and could recite them all, with a few facts about each. At age 3, he wanted to be an astronaut. He wanted to visit Mars and see the volcanoes. He decorated his room with everything space-related and would share everything he could about what he had learned.
Even after his strokes at age 5, when he could barely speak, he was still singing along to his planet songs and naming the dwarf planets.
Levi never got to reach his dream of becoming an astronaut. Our little scientist was taken way too young. But his ashes will achieve the dream he could not.
We will continue looking for you in the stars, Levi. Mommy, Daddy, and Emmie love you so very much. We miss you every day. You have such a large family who was grateful for every moment we had with you. Keep exploring the universe, buddy. We will be missing you down on Earth.
