To John Shoemaker, the Cosmos, black holes, and astrophysics were fascinating subjects. He spent many happy hours reading and studying about the spectacle of the multiverses.
He was born in Pittston, Pennsylvania, on October 7, 1942, to John and Frances Shoemaker. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, and in his early adult years was a Troop leader. He graduated from Exeter High School in Exeter, PA, in 1960. John went on to Wilkes University, Wilkes Barre, PA, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1964. In 1968, he received an MA degree from Keane University, Newark, NJ.
John was employed by the Old Bridge Township Board of Education, New Jersey, for 33 years. He was a specialist teaching students who struggled with reading. He was also an executive officer of the Old Bridge Education Association. John enjoyed desktop publishing and produced many publications for various entities. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan and enjoyed driving great cars.
After retiring from the Old Bridge Township School System in 1997, he moved to Daytona Beach Shores, FL, where he volunteered at the Epiphany Thrift Store for many years. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, snow skiing, ballroom dancing, desktop publishing, and doing the cryptoquote, the sudoku, and the crossword puzzle every morning with his latte.
John passed away on July 4, 2022, at the age of 79. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Trudy Shoemaker and by nephews Philip Beers and Al Candia (wife, Liz); and nieces Eileen Glanton (husband, Richard), Megan Rodgers, and Marie Knorr(husband, Brian), and great nieces, Isabella Anastasio, Elena Anastasio, Anthony Anastasio, Georgia Glanton, and great nephews Braden and Carson Knorr.
