Jeffrey Andrew Townsend

"Keep building a legacy worthy of the stars"
1963 - 2026

Jeff Townsend, born in Altoona, Iowa, in 1963, pursued a life of disruptive innovation, challenge, and endless intrigue. He firmly believed that anything could be accomplished if enough time, effort, and determination were devoted to solving a problem. "Good enough" was never part of his vocabulary. Instead, he preached mental toughness and taught those around him how to turn adversity into opportunity when their backs were against the wall.

After graduating from Iowa State University in 1985, Jeff quickly landed a programming role at Cerner Corporation. Over the following decades, he helped shape the direction of one of the world's leading healthcare technology companies and became one of the most influential figures in the digital healthcare space. He was an architect of innovation, a strategic leader, and a mentor whose impact continues to ripple across the global industry.

Jeff dreamed of a day when enough data and insights could be captured and integrated into healthcare systems so that not only individual patients but entire communities could take preventive action and receive care plans tailored to their specific needs. Even near the end of his life, he remained passionate about sharing this vision and advancing patient care models that could proactively reduce healthcare costs while improving outcomes. He held a special interest in rural healthcare, a vital part of society that he believed was slowly being overlooked and forgotten in the modern era.

While Jeff leaves this planet with much left to ponder, the lessons he shared and the impact he made will live on in perpetuity among us. He had a relentless obsession with building a legacy worthy of the stars and never took his foot off the gas in pursuit of that goal.

To honor Jeff is to honor his cosmic way of thinkingalways seeing systems, patterns, and possibilities where others saw limitations. There could be no more fitting resting place than the universe that fascinated him so deeply: a place filled with wonder, mystery, and an infinite number of puzzles left to solve.

We are eternally grateful for having you in our lives and will never forget the lessons you shared with us, especially those delivered in the form of your unforgettable pranks. You taught us to think, to question possibilities, to build with intention, to face challenges head-on, and to innovate where others would not.

Your voice will forever continue to guide, illuminate, and inspire us, like a constellation to navigate by.

For one last time, you can now say:

"I am off to save the worldbut this time, from another world.
