Gary Brown, a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 19, 2024, at the age of 67. Born on May 19, 1957, in Akron, Ohio, to Lorena Marie Brown (Marshall) and Silas Brown, both of whom predeceased him, Gary lived a life full of love, laughter, and passion.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Nancy Brown of San Bernardino, CA; his three children, Lorena Brown of Los Angeles, CA, Melanierose Banks of San Diego, CA, and Gary Brown of Madera, CA; his sisters, Marilyn Denise Brown of Boston, MA, Ann Brown of Akron, OH, and Caroline Maximovich of Woodburn, OR; and three grandchildren, Keith Banks III, Gwen Banks, and Isla Brown. He was preceded in death by his dear big brother and friend, Gregory D. Brown.
Gary graduated from Akron East High School in 1976. He was a lifelong fan of The Ohio State University football team, the Cleveland Browns, and the Cleveland Guardians (Indians). His love for science fiction and outer space was profound, and in accordance with his wishes, part of his remains will be launched into space from a rocket ship in 2026.
Gary served honorably in the US Air Force, achieving the rank of Senior Airman (SRA). He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his exemplary service. Gary met his wife, Nancy, while stationed in the Philippines, where they had their first daughter. The couple had two more children and lived in San Bernardino for over 37 years.
Gary was an eternal optimist with a passion for connecting with people. He loved talking on the phone with friends, siblings, and cousins, and he particularly enjoyed engaging in lively conversations. He was the best grandpa and loved nothing more than hearing Keith III and Gwen’s raucous laughter when they came to visit. He adored his grandchildren and showered them with love and hugs.
Gary's positive outlook on life and his ability to bring joy to others will be deeply missed. His legacy of love and optimism will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him here on Earth, in space and beyond.
