Mildred Modene Johnson

"Sail On Silver Girl!"
1937 - 2010

Modene Johnson, of Mission, Texas departed this life for her next great adventure on Monday April 26th, 2010 with her family close by.

Mrs. Johnson was retired from a lifetime of various education related positions of all levels. She held administrative and consulting jobs with the state and served on many boards and commissions throughout the world.

Her chosen epitaph was simply "She Cared". Travel was her great passion, and Mom was indeed a world traveler. She visited all seven continents and over 150 countries. She cherished her many close relationships with friends around the world.

Her desire was to be cremated with interment at the family cemetery with some of her ashes to be rocketed into space for a final unique trip. She chose the orbiting trip so she could continue to “see” all the wonderful countries and friends below!

Modene was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, and her parents. She is survived by a brother Don Gartman and wife Sandy, three children, Lynda Rogers and husband Gary, Keith Johnson and wife Marjorie, and Cindy Kercheval. She also leaves behind nine grand-children and fifteen great grand-children. There are numerous other relatives and friends who also will miss her thoughtful and kind ways.

After her diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, Mom displayed an amazing level of courage, dignity and grace. Her only concerns were for others, and her thoughtfulness will be forever treasured. She felt fortunate to have so many wonderful and caring friends who brightened her days and made it easy for her to continue to always smile.
